The absence of winter tires sanctioned in France ! One year ago, November 1, 2021, the Mountain Law (la loi montagne) came into force in France. There is no more tolerance.

The new law obliges motorists to equip themselves correctly (e.g. snow tires) during the winter period (November 1st – March 31st) in high mountain regions (e.g. The Alps). Failure to comply with this law can result in a fine of €135 or even the immobilisation of the vehicle. This law mainly concerns light vehicles and massive vehicles (e.g. motor homes). However, let us not forget that the aim is above all to improve road safety by avoiding accidents due to winter weather.
